Fifth Graders Ask Senator Leahy Questions

This year we've been studying government in Social Studies, and more specifically, what it means to be a responsible, active citizen. Through the help of Mr. Minelli and Ms Arlyn Bruccoli, we were able to do something Senator Leahy has never done before-- chat LIVE with students through a video-conferencing camera!  Senator Leahy is no stranger to live chats-- he's been doing them for years-- but actually seeing his audience, and enabling his audience to see HIM is the beauty of technology.

The questions ranged from favorite foods to the Iraq war, and the senator answered them all.  He even invited students to Washington to visit him.  At the end of the interview, he asked how many students in the audience might want to become senators... lots raised hands.  Then he joked, "Well too bad there can only be two."  The best part of that joke was the kids got it!
